Allen Wolf – Vice President
Allen M. Wolf is the Vice President of the Michigan Fire Safe Foundation. Mr. Wolf has been an attorney for over 38 years and is a former state and federal prosecutor. He was a legal advisor to the International Association of Arson Investigators, former member of the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee and assisted in creating the Arson School for Prosecutors with representatives from the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division. His current law practice is in Lake Orion, Michigan includes fire and explosion litigation. Mr. Wolf was a former award winning broadcast journalist in the Detroit area.
Jon Shefferly – Secretary
Jon B. Shefferly is an attorney specializing in property insurance litigation and pre-litigation investigation of claims as well as some disability insurance litigation on behalf of insurance carriers. His practice has also concentrated on property loss subrogation. Jon obtained his undergraduate degree from University of Michigan in 1967 in English Literature and his law degree (Juris Doctor) from Wayne State University Law School in 1971. He is and has been a member of the State Bar of Michigan since 1971. He is admitted to practice before all state courts in Michigan and also all the Federal District Courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been a member of the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee and has worked with the National Fire Information Council, Michigan Anti-Car Theft Campaign Committee and the Governor’s Task Force on Fire Safety. He has been founding secretary and a director of the Michigan Fire Safe Foundation. Jon has acted as a mediator in the State Circuit Courts and has been an arbitrator under the Michigan Medical Arbitration Act in reference to professional liability claims. He has been an Arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association in areas of commercial disputes, insurance disputes and medical malpractice claims and uninsured motorist’s claims. His legal experience over 40 years includes personal injury defense litigation with many personal injury defense claims and a few personal injury plaintiffs’ claims, workers disability compensation defense and third-party litigation involving subrogation and recovery of workers compensation payments from responsible third parties. This practice has included some admiralty claim recovery as well as property loss. He has had experience in business planning and corporate law.
John Wiechert – Treasurer
John P. Wiechert joined the Michigan State Police in 1965 and was stationed at Niles, Warren and New Baltimore until he was promoted to Detective Sergeant and assigned to the Criminal Investigation Section in Detroit in 1974. Transferred into the Fire Marshal Division Investigative Section in August of 1974 in which he remained in until October of 1977 when he was promoted to Detective Lieutenant of the Fire Investigative Section and assigned to Division headquarters in Lansing, Michigan where he remained until his retirement in December of 1990. In April of 1991 he became the Executive Director of the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee where he remained until he retired in the summer of 2001.
He was then employed by Crawford Investigations until the summer of 2002 when he became an investigator for Consumers Energy Company till he retired in 2012. He is the past President of the Michigan Chapter of the I.A.A.I and Michigan Arson Prevention Committee.
